This is a highly collectible vintage BBC Play School "First PlayTray" wooden lift-and-look puzzle from the 1970s / 1980s. It features the beloved characters from the iconic long-running British children's television series Play School, which was also widely broadcast in Australia on the ABC.
Character Breakdown
The illustration depicts the series' famous toy presenters in front of a yellow house:
Left Window: Little Ted sitting by the open window, with Big Ted digging in the garden below him.
Centre Door: The iconic round, green Humpty sweeping the front path.
Right Window: Hamble sitting by the swing, with Jemima standing on the grass wearing her signature tartan dress.
Puzzle Design
This specific board is an "under-the-piece" surprise puzzle. When children lift out the peg-equipped sections (like the house roof and window boxes), it reveals different illustrations or inner house scenes beneath them.
The tray measures 24.5cm x 21.3cm.
This is not a new jigsaw. It has minor signs of wear, particularly around the edges and on the picture under the pieces. Please study all the photos.
