This is a vintage Mid-Century Modern (MCM) hand-painted wooden serving tray or cheese platter, most likely dating back to the 1950s or 1960s.

Design & Details

Style: Kitsch / Mid-Century Folk Art. It features hand-painted motifs common to mid-century kitchenware, including a strawberry, mushrooms, a pear, and colourful beehive-like patterns.

Handle: A characteristic double-loop cane/wicker wrapped centre handle designed for single-handed lifting and serving.

Origin: This distinctive style of turned wooden kitchenware with a central wrapped loop handle was highly popular in Australia, often produced by local boutique mid-century woodware brands such as Vanikor Woodware or Jean King Melbourne.

It has scratches and marks. The pattern is well-preserved. The handle is well-maintained.

It has a diameter of 32.5cm. The plastic handles span 14.5cm in maximum diameter and have a thickness of 2.6cm.

Similar kitsch-style iterations were also made as souvenir or giftware items across North America and Europe during the post-war era.
