This item is a traditional Chinese or Mongolian charcoal hot pot, often referred to as a "Beijing hot pot" or "fire pot". Also known as a Mongolian steamboat, firepot, or shabu-shabu pot. These traditional Asian cooking vessels are designed for tabletop communal dining, where diners cook various meats, vegetables, and noodles in a simmering broth.

  • Material: Crafted in brass, this antique piece features etched patterns on the base and openwork handles. 
  • Function: It is designed for interactive cooking, where charcoal is placed in the central chimney to heat broth in the surrounding ring-shaped pot.

  • Central Chimney: The most distinctive feature is the integrated central tube or chimney. This is designed to hold hot charcoal or briquettes, which provide the heat source for the surrounding soup basin.
  • Two-Piece Design: The pot typically consists of a large basin for the broth and a matching lid. The base often has an opening to provide airflow to the charcoal and to collect ash.

It measures 23.5cm in height, 23.4cm in maximum diameter and 16cm in base diameter. The top of the chimney has a diameter of 6cm

 

It is in good vintage condition. It has some wear to the surfaces. Please study the photos.
