Vintage P.M.G TAS 1048

I dont know for sure but I think this is a stamp belonging to the Postmaster General of Tasmania. Possibly the number refers to a specific post office?

It measures 17.4cm in length, with widths of 5.5cm x 2.9cm.

It is metal, with the usual metal markings of a vintage item.

It opens and closes smoothly. It does not have the metal clip to hold it closed.
